E-Mail From Anywhere
Not only does Qualcomm
in San Diego provide a quality meeting place for our monthly computer meetings,
they also have a powerful no-cost e-mail service for anyone wanting to access
their mail from any computer hooked up to the web.
This summer I was vacationing
in Canada, but needed to keep in contact with the other board members
of my computer user group. This was
during our web page contest. The deadline for submissions and voting were
scheduled during the time I was to be out of the country. I was familiar
with Microsoft's HotMail (one of Gates' acquisitions), but didn't want to
deal with another EvilEmpire product, even if there was no initial cost.
I discovered the EudoraMail
site and realized that this was the best answer to my dilemma. Not only
does this site provide a new address accessible over the web, it also allows
you to set up pop mail to check your other e-mail accounts. There's even
a way to find out your password if you should forget by simply answering
a preselected personal question. Did I mention that this is a free service.
After a relatively easy registration, you're on. At this
point you now have not only a new place to check your e-mail, but a way
to keep track of information. You can store phone numbers, page, fax, home
and business addresses and even notes. Talk about convenience. It's like
having access to your personal address book anywhere there's a Net hookup.
Another nice feature gives the option of creating folders to sort mail according
to your own preferences.

When casting my vote during the contest I was thousands
of miles away, on Vancouver Island at an Internet coffee shop. The connection
was quick and easy, and I didn't have to worry about reconfiguring the system
to check my mail. The saddest thing about this experience was that I was
forced to use an uncomfortable WinTel machine. Any port in the storm, eh?
EudoraMail is easy to use, intuitive, powerful and elegant.
Sounds like the Macintosh, doesn't it?
The buttons and help are also straight-forward. Did I say any thing about
this being not costing anything?
I recommend this service wholeheartedly. As the old saying
goes, "Try it. You'll like it!" You can start your EudoraMail
account by going to www.eudoramail.com.
